Budapest Design Week

Budapest Design Week

Having created Dublin’s bid for World Design Capital Bob Gray and Emma Curley were asked by Budapest Design Week to curate Irelands contribution to their 2011 headline exhibition.

The exhibition COULEUR LOCALE:THE COLOURS OF EUROPE IN OBJECTS asked the question Does the design culture of different countries have unique characteristics? Having explored every aspect of design culture and infrastructure to emerging design industries and public investment in design we decided to choose three themes and relate a piece of Irish design to each theme. The objects curated were Hurley Table, 2007 by Gordon Byrne (Theme: Storytelling), ‘RE.TREAT’, 2009 by Úna Burke (Theme: Observation) and Infinite Objects by Mcor Technologies, 3D print (Theme: Ideas visualized).

ICAD Upstarts

No one can get relevant experience without the necessary opportunities and the ICAD Upstarts Programme is a chance to work to briefs devised by Dublin’s best creatives and receive face-to-face critiques.

‘Beneath the pavement, the beach’ a slogan adopted by protestors during the 1968 Paris riots was the starting point for the project set out by Red&Grey Design.

This years Upstarts were in the studio last night to present their ideas and receive some constructive feedback.

All This And A Hill Of Beans

All This And A Hill Of Beans

How does a witty, loudmouth Yank with two degrees and an over-inflated ego end up slinging lattés on Harcourt Road? And how does it take a design studio over a year to design a poster for said barista extraordinaire? Great coffee, and a great one woman show, that’s how. Through monologue, improv and the dark art of foam ornamentation, barista Jenna Logan lays bare the hidden side of café work, and in the process tries to reconcile the gap between where she thought she’d be and where she is. All This and A Hill of Beans is a show for anyone who suspects that their true potential may not yet be fully realised.
