Becketts Irish Bar

Becketts is an Irish Bar located just outside Brussels in Belgium. It’s close proximity to a university means its clientele is the local student population.

The concept behind the identity was based around Samuel Beckett sitting in a bar filling his notebook with stories and ideas. We decided to use quotes such as ‘We’re all born mad, some remain so‘ as well as illustrate characters like Estragon and Vladamir from Waiting for Godot hanging around in the bar enjoying the odd pint or two. We entrusted the task of illustrating the characters to Dave Mullyaert who created each character using cut paper.

We brought all of the elements together to create an identity that includes signage, menus, interior displays, uniforms, a website along with a range of promotional items.

The Beckett’s Irish Bar identity received both a bronze (identity) and silver (website) ICAD award in 2005.
